Terry started out training dogs as a hobby while owning a landscaping company. He raised and bred Schutzhund titled German Shepherd Dogs for over five years. He heard about Sit Means Sit through one of his friends and ended up traveling out of state to meet Fred Hassen, the Founder/CEO of Sit Means Sit.
In 2009, Terry opened his Sit Means Sit Columbus franchise, which he is still actively involved with six days a week. Sit Means Sit Columbus was in the Top 3 franchisees in 2011 and 2012. Terry is a certified Sit Means Sit trainer and has training in Schutzhund, Narcotics and Explosives along with Personal Protection. He has attended various dog training courses and seminars to further his canine knowledge.
Terry currently owns three dogs and the working breed are his favorite to work with because they enjoy having their mind stimulated, which gives them the capability to accomplish anything. As the owner and head trainer of Sit Means Sit Columbus, Terry’s favorite part about dog training is to have the ability to educate people on how to train their dogs while increasing the canine’s quality of life. Seeing the families hard work pay off with their dog during private in-home lessons makes it all worth it to Terry.
Megan first came across Sit Means Sit Columbus at the Ohio State Fair in 2010. She started out as a client and her passion for dog training grew while she finished her in-home private lessons with DeeDee. Prior to making dog training her full time job with Sit Means Sit Columbus, Megan worked eight years at a vet clinic where she was the Head Kennel Manager.
She is currently working with other trainers for Schutzhund training in hopes of getting her BH title. She is also furthering her knowledge in tracking and personal protection along with attending programs that focus on timid/shy and aggressive dog training.
Megan is an evaluator for Canine Good Citizen (CGC) and AKC Puppy Classes. She currently has two dogs and working breeds are her favorite to work with because of their drive. The best part about her job is the transformation in dogs from when they enter the facility to when their family picks them up. The gratitude shown by families upon picking up their dog(s) is beyond rewarding, they are always relieved that from here on forward they won’t have to think about re-homing their dog ever again.
Kelsey’s love of dogs started when she was young. She has been successfully training and owner handling her own dogs for 5 years now in obedience and Schutzhund. Her love of dogs and training brought her to pursue professional certification so that her passion could become her profession. In 2015 Kelsey completed Professional certification through National K-9 which is regulated and approved by the Ohio State Board of Career Colleges and Schools. She and her German Shepherd dog, Frankie, excelled in an intensive Master Trainer course.
She currently is training her dogs for competition sports and will be competing professionally soon. Kelsey has three dogs (2 boxers and a German Shepherd). She is certified in Canine First Aid and CPR, Basic and Advance Obedience, Behavior Modification, Tracking, Scent Detection, Retrieval, Assistance Dog Training, and more.
Robert lets the dogs out to potty, stretch and play plus making sure they have food and water. He has experience in K9 Therapy and if he ever sees something concerning (temperament, health, behavior towards him, etc) he will bring it to a trainer’s attention. Robert loves that he learns something new every day about each dog and loves what he does. He will always make sure your dog gets the best care while staying at Sit Means Sit Columbus
Dog Training in Columbus Testimonials:
I had Valkyrie, my one year old Dutch Shepherd/Malinois, at Sit Means Sit to help me with her behavior. She has a strong prey drive and was very shy in public, so she wanted to run and/or attack everything. She is very much better. She follows commands now. I am still getting her used to not chasing the house cats, but she will “place” by them now. She needs more months of following commands, but she is well on her way. I’m very satisfied with the results. A lot less tension on Valkyrie and on me. She likes going through the commands.
I started out as a client with a dog that had some reactivity issues as well as constant barking. After a couple lesson we had our dog off leash and in a much better state of mind. She was no longer anxious and she looked to us as a leader and for guidance instead of taking it upon herself to control a situation.
I have since then taken the knowledge learned with her and applied it to my other dogs. That knowledge along with the group classes helped me work through aggression issues with one dog and some crazy energy management with another.
I have such incredible respect for Megan at Sit Means Sit Columbus. We now have the family member we hoped for, instead of a constant source of anxiety in an extra-large-demon-dog. I was a complete sceptic of SMS methodology before picking our dog up today, and I worried constantly about having to find a better home for her if training didn’t work out and what that might mean for her. The difference is astounding. Today for the first time ever, I was able to give and receive affection from our 8mo Neo Mastiff. She is well on her way to being one of the best family dogs I have ever seen. We recommend Megan whole-heartedly for all training needs. She knows her “sit.”
Great company! They know their stuff when it comes to dogs. They took our unruly dog (constant barking, jumping on everyone and everything, obsessive licking and low confidence) and made her into a wonderful family member ( quiet on command, jumping up when asked, an off command for the licking and confidence that is through the roof)! We can take her anywhere off leash and have full control of her. Thank you to the Sit Means Sit Team!
We sent two of our dogs here recently for training (10 day board and train), a German Shepherd and a Husky – not easy breeds – but we couldn’t be happier with the results! Both dogs are very well behaved and spot on with their commands! Of course, the training doesn’t end when they come home, it is up to us to continue on this path and keep the commands fresh in their minds! However, we are thrilled with the jump start this program gave us!!!
My crazy pup has only been there for three days, and based on the pictures, I’m already amazed by what they have accomplished with her. I can’t wait to see more!
Had a very wild rescue high energy terrier, and terry cook taught us how to get him under control, he is now a very respectful good citizen!
